Kid Candy and the Crowns (Prototype)

about

I wrote and recorded (on an 8-track) "Kid Candy and the Crowns" in 2001 for an album I never released called Verbum Sap (most of whose songs have been released on other albums, either in their original or a re-arranged form).

The title is in homage to the band Kid Creole and the Coconuts. I think it occurred to me to do this because the music reminded me of one of their songs ("Dancin' at the Bains Douches").

The audio file I'm providing here is the same one I sent to Spotify etc. I usually upload something a little louder here, but probably not necessary for this one.

lyrics

it's good to see you back here up and runnin' again
dripping wet with enthusiasm hope and gin
this time things will be different
'cuz we took care of all those so-called friends

(but) let me fill you in on what's been goin' on
Dirty Larry finally had to pawn his gun
Sampson went and got himself a hair transplant
Clark & Lewis: they're stuck in a bad jam, whoa-ah-whoa

it's good to see you flashin' that classic grin here again
eager as a weasel and so impatient to dig in
this time we're gonna' win!
though no one's begun someone's bound to give in

but let me give you just one little word of advice
I suggest you listen good 'cuz I ain't saying it twice
we had to change some things when you were sent away
so you better learn the new rules if you want to stay and play-ay, oh-oh-whoa

THIS TIME, I've come back to stay
So don't get in my way
Thank you for waiting around
And for holding the fort down
Thanks for keeping my crown
Clean and warm for my return
To the ground

FEELS GOOD being back here up and running again
Eager as an eagle to swoop down and dig in
This time kids, I think we've won
So let's all go home and drink to our fun, wow-whoa-oh-whoa-w
