Listen... A Door (Room Prototype)

from (prototypes) by Dan Jacob Wallace

/

about

I'm deep into another version that has an elaborate arrangement with rather involved instrumentation, thus the "room" in the title here.

This the most recent of a few attempts I've made over the years to record this song. I'm not sure it succeeds, but I think it's an interesting enough attempt to distribute. If I ever get my hands again on a functioning nylon guitar, I think I'd give it a go with a live feel (maybe turn a camera or two on).

lyrics

if you listen in the distance
you can hear the rustling of shadows
soft as paper, maybe they were
left behind by some olden guarantee

is it a song? is it a word? is it a code I oughta learn?
gimme a clue, what do we do?
are there doors that we should go through?

you might see her in the mirror
if you peer deep into the fog and haze
of daybreak, maybe she'll wake
up to sing you some olden lullaby

is it a room? is it a drawer? is it a book under the floor?
gimme a clue, what do we do?
are there worlds that we should go to?

is it a view? is it a sound? is it a light under the ground?
gimme a clue, what do we do?
are there walls that we should dig through?
